Q&A with Linebacker Steven Morrison
November 10, 2006
By Brian Nowicki

Steven Morrsion had 114 tackles and was and was 2nd team all-city as a senior at Christ the King High School in Queens, NY. He came to Toledo in 2004 and played in 13 games in a backup role, getting 27 tackles and forcing on fumble. Last year he played in 12 games, starting two of them, and had 31 tackles and one sack.

After starting slow this season, Morrison has turned into one of the more dominant players on the defense. Against Northern Illinois he had 6 tackles, one forced fumble, and 2 sacks totaling in a loss of 19 yards. For the season he has 31 tackles, with five sacks totaling a loss of 30 yards, and a forced fumble. I recently had the honor of talking to Mr Morrison, and the below Q & A is the result of that discussion.

Steven Morrison Q & A

When you were being recruited, what attracted you to the University of Toledo?
Steven - I really liked Coach Spence and Coach McCray, who were recruiting me. Then when I came here for a visit I really liked Coach Amstutz and fell in love with this place.

You've really played well the second half of the season. What do you attribute the success to?
Steven - I've had a more dead on approach. I've been more dedicated. I had some academic issues earlier, but that is all taken care of now. I spend an excessive amount of time watching film and tendencies. I've been staying after practice and doing extra drills.

What do you work on by yourself when the coaches are not around?
Steven - I watch a lot of film. The more film you watch, the more tendencies you pick up on. I also stay after practice to do extra drills.

How important is it to finish the season out well?
Steven - We need to send the seniors out the best we can. Every game left is a one game season. We win the game and we win the season.

Was there a revenge factor in beating Northern Illinois?
Steven - It probably was a revenge game for a lot of the guys, but it was more personal for me. It was an emotional game. Last year's game against Northern Illinois was the last game my uncle got to physically see me play before he passed away. This year I wanted to play the best I could for him. Before the game I had tears in my eyes and was literally crying. I just looked above for the strength to play well..

What do you like to do in your free time?
Steven - I like to play video games.

Do you play as Toledo in the NCAA video game?
Steven - Yeah. I won the national championship as Toledo too.

How are you in the game?
Steven - I like to play as myself. I am really good in the game.

What's your favorite movie?
Steven - Bad Boys II.

What type of music do you like to listen to?
Steven - Rap and R&B.
