By Mike Sopher Wow! What a conclusion to the 2005 regular season! Hopefully with a little help from our now second favorite team in Western Michigan, these seniors will get the opportunity to play for a MAC title and a potential bowl game. To say these seniors have led us fans to several memorable Novembers would be an understatement. An 8-3 record is about on par with what most Rocket fans expected this season. Hopefully, they will get the chance to add to that record along with another MAC title. Since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I figure I will give Toledo fans what I am thankful for this season, especially Tuesday night: I am thankful for Trinity Dawson. He ran over Bowling Green and pretty much the entire MAC throughout the season. He is tough, durable, agile, and a quick back who could easily be a 1st team All-MAC this year. I am thankful for Bruce Gradkowksi. He has shown a lot of heart and determination this season. He had to overcome several speed bumps this year, but has continually showed why he is the best quarterback in the MAC. Bruce is the man on and off the field. I am thankful for Quinton Broussard. His ability to play a backup role as a senior with no complaints speaks of his character. A terrific young man, who has put many smiles on the faces of Rocket fans, Broussard added much leadership and depth to this running back core. I am thankful for the offensive line. They dominated BG’s front last night and have become one the best lines in the MAC. Toledo is number one in total rushing this season in the conference. I am thankful for Tim Rose. Toledo’s defense is back with a purpose! Sure, they gave up some yardage and some points against the last two opponents. But when they needed to step up, they did. This defense is one of the best in the MAC. I hope he stays in Toledo for some time. I am thankful for Anthony Jordan, David Thomas, Keon Jackson, and Antonio Malone. These seniors have given Toledo’s defense leadership and experience. They are the rock of this defense. I am thankful for Jason Robbins. He is perfect this season and nailed a 40+ yarder against the Falcons. "Robbins for Heisman" is a common phrase heard by the Toledo faithful, and judging by the fact that he is the only perfect kicker in field goals this season by a Division 1A player makes the argument even more debatable. I am thankful for Steve Odom. He had a huge night against Bowling Green. Although he has not stepped up to the degree most fans believed he would, Odom showed against the Falcon defense why he can be a serious threat. This guy will have a huge senior season. I am thankful for Toledo’s tight ends. I wrote an article a few months back calling these guys "Toledo’s Best Kept Secrets." Against Bowling Green, these guys proved that message valid. I am thankful for Coach Amstutz. He wins big games and puts Toledo in position to play in December. What is best about this man is his constant smile on the sideline. This guy loves his job, but most importantly, he loves Toledo. I am thankful for the fans. We kick some serious butt in promoting and rooting on our beloved Rockets this season. We are the 12th man of this football team and it shows in the Glass Bowl and throughout the country. Finally, I am thankful for beating Bowling Green 44-41 Tuesday night! It was a great football game with a great atmosphere in Doyt Perry Stadium. Win or lose, this will always remain true: B.G.S.U.c.k.s!!!! Enough said. Have a question or comment for Mike? Email |
