By Staff Members of the UT Rockets football team will play in an exhibition game of Wheelchair Football against the Toledo Crash, The Ability Center of Greater Toledo’s wheelchair football team on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at 6:00 p.m., in the UT Student Recreation Center on the campus of The University of Toledo. All participants will use wheelchairs during the game, which will be conducted in accordance with Universal Wheelchair Football rules. The Ability Center established its team, the area’s only “universal rules” wheelchair football team, several years ago as a recreational activity for persons with disabilities. The “universal rules” format accommodates participation for players with varying physical disabilities. The Crash is also an “inclusive” team with players with and without disabilities. Established in 1920, The Ability Center of Greater Toledo is a not-for-profit organization providing a variety of services designed to assist individuals with disabilities to participate in their communities with the greatest possible independence. The Center offers Peer Support, Information and Referral, Independent Living Skills Training, Advocacy, and other services to residents of Lucas, Wood, Defiance, Fulton, Williams, Henry, and Ottawa Counties.
